Four Embroidered Hearts Wallhanging

On April 13, 2015, I posted about my flying geese quilt and embroidered pillow that I made with Robyn Pandolph fabrics. I also made this little wallhanging to hang above my bed and I used co-ordinating RP fabrics to go with the quilt.  The outside of the hearts are paper-pieced (not my favorite method to do) and the center is hand embroidered. The whole piece is hand quilted by me too. I am linking with Super Mom-No Cape today so hop over there and check out the rest of the entries. Here is a cute little pillow that I made a few years ago to go with a quilt that I made for my bedroom.  It says "The flower garden is also my garden of thoughts and dreams...The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers and the dreams are as beautiful."  I loved the sentiment and the flowers around the border. I used just one strand of floss to embroider them. It was a free pattern off the internet and I'm sorry that I don't remember where I got it and I haven't found the pattern since, if anyone knows, please let me know.  The quilt is used on my bed spring through summer, it is really pastel and I always look forward to putting it on the bed every year.  The fabric collection was called "Secret Garden" I'm pretty sure and Robyn Pandolph was the designer. Still one of my favorite collections.

The above pictures are the border which I designed with Robyn Pandolph motifs. I didn't have a pattern for the quilt, I just made Flying Geese blocks until I had enough, sewed a long piece in between, machine appliqued the border, and then more Flying Geese!! It was machine quilted by Nancy Anderson and I love what she did with the quilting. Today I'm linking to Super Mom-No Cape. The Fair...and Weddings!!!

I've been missing on here for over a month. I haven't been hiding, not on a trip but just plain lazy about blogging, I guess. I will attempt to catch up a little today. Here is a picture of my Quilted Village hanging at the County Fair. A couple of ribbons attached themselves to the quilt. First was the blue ribbon and second was a purple ribbon. It was awarded the Judges Choice for the best item in the Machine Quilted category. I was pleased..

I made this pillow for my first grandson wedding on July 6, 2013. Hand embroidered on the wrong side of ivory satin. The corners were pieces of the straps from the bride's dress. She took the straps off and wore the dress strapless..

This was the first of my grandson's weddings this summer. Number 2 was on August 3, both weddings were beautiful and were lots of fun. The days just didn't last long enough.....

There was just so much going on the past month and a half, that blogging was the furthest thing from my mind. I hope I can get back in the grove now and make some entries here on a timely basis...Sew until next time...Have a Stitches kind of day....Bye for now.....

My Quilted Village

I finally finished my Quilted Village over a month ago...and I want to share it with you. . My sister, Judy, quilted it for me and I think it is pretty awesome how she quilted it. She used 2 batts in it, a cotton medium weight and then put a wool batt on top of the cotton one. It is pretty stiff but that's just how I wanted it so it would hang nicely on the wall. I am going to enter it in our county fair next week and I am hoping it will win a ribbon for her machine quilting. I did this as a BOM from a quilt shop and used most of the fabric that they sent me. However, I always have to substitute a few that I don't care for.. I did invisible machine applique on all of the houses but hand embroidered the trees and birds.  I have been working on this for several years so it's a good feeling to have it done.  I hope you like it as much as I do. Baskets and Bunnies

  I showed you pieces of this quilt  back in August 2012 and now it is finally done (except for the label)..It is a small quilt 28"wide and 34" in length. Not small enough to be a doll quilt and not big enough to be a baby quilt really.  I hand appliqued and hand quilted it. I just put some

bunnies in each corner and then quilted bunnies in between, with some swirls to look like bunnies were

hopping all around. That doesn't show up very well, does it?  It was a fun quilt to make and an easy project to pick up and take along with me. I used polyester batting and I wouldn't use it again because I wanted this quilt to look old since using the civil war fabrics and I think it is too puffy. I would have rather had a flat looking quilt but we learn from doing something every time, don't we???  It's live and learn for me!!!

I'm Trying, I Really Am!

The Great Pumpkin BOM Quilt

I'm trying I really am!!  Trying to get some PHD"s or UFO"s, whatever you want to call them, FINISHED!! I am working on 3 right now and I hope to get the Great Pumpkin quilt sashed together within the week . I already have my name on a list for machine quilting and it should be coming up in October. I'm really looking forward to get it done for Fall.

And then there is the Halloween quilt. I'm putting the last borders on it and I think I am going to tackle machine quilting it myself.(Wish me luck)  The other gals that made this quilt the same time as I did, had theirs hanging last year to enjoy it and they were so neat.  It was a fun quilt to make, lots of fun!!  I want to do alot of embellishing on it but that can always be done at a later date, if I don't get at it this year. It was so funny when we were making these quilts because none of us were professed Halloween lovers but every time we see a cute Halloween patterns, we just love it!!  I know now that we are in denial, big time!!

And then here is the little embroidered basket quilt again . Just need to add another border and it will be ready to quilt. It was also on a list to be machine quilted until my Mini group had a hissy fit about that so...I guess it will be a hand quilting project after all.  It's not all that big but I'm still hand quilting on the little appliqued basket quilt so this one will have to wait in the corner.  And I don't want you to think for even a minute that these 3 are the only unfinished projects that I have lurking around my house. There's more, lot's more but I told myself I HAD to get these done because I already have another that I want to start. Isn't this just the norm for quilters?? That's about it for me and my projects for now.  Oh, I forgot I do have the Quilted Village ready to go to the machine quilter when my name comes up...Wow, that's 4 projects that I will have finished in a month or two or maybe a little more.   Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day..... Little Basket's

I had been wanting to make a basket quilt for sometime and found this little basket pattern in a book

at the library. It was used in an Advent Calendar but I really liked it especially because of the rounded edges and attached handle. So I started making them and didn't know how many I would make, just kept making them until I felt like I might have enough for a small quilt. The blocks measure 4" finished so they are pretty small.  All of the fabrics are Civil War repo's but the background is something that I have had for "many" years.  Then I decided it needed something in the border so I drew out a little rabbit, similar to many that I found on the net. My original rabbit had 2 ears, and 4 legs but simplified it to include just one ear and 2 legs.  I'm hand quilting it  and enjoying that a lot. I will show it to you again when it finished, which could be several months as I want to keep this project something to just pick up and work on when I need it..  I'll be back soon with pictures of my Fairie Garden, it's so cute!!  I love it!!  Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day.    

A Quickie Doll Quilt

I have had two young men working at my house for the last week and they are really special workers, I think. They have been putting in replacement windows, fourteen of them to be exact. You get to know someone pretty good when they have been around that long, anyway I do.  They took all of my drapes, sheers, curtains and shades down so while I had the chance, I have washed and fluffed all of them. The "boys" have been troopers when it come to putting them back up and helped so much..I don't know many workers that would mess around with drapes and curtains like they did.  One of the guys has a little 16 month old girl, so I decided I wanted to make her a little doll quilt. after her Dad told me she got her first Barbie doll. Aaaagh!!!! That just didn't sound right to me for a 16 month old so the old grandma in me, came out..She will have a "baby doll" quilt now and I don't think Barbie will appreciate it one bit.  I'm going to ask if she has a baby doll to wrap in her quilt, if not, she needs one!!!!  I sure hope she likes her little quilt..I made it using the technique the Missouri Star Quilts had on one of their tutorials, called Summer in the Park. They used jelly rolls for their quilt but I just cut strips (1 1/2" wide) for the doll quilt. I made 2 strata's of each set, added a border and the quilt came out about 16 1/2" x 20 1/2" and I used the 30's reproduction fabrics..I can't wait to give it away.
