Yellow Hibiscus

Most of my flowers are winding down and it's time to cut or pull them, except, my yellow hibiscus! It has grown over 7 feet tall and a couple of days ago, I counted 26 blossoms! And there are over a 100 buds on it. I know the first hint of a frost will be it's demise but I am really enjoying it right now.  My sister started it from seed and it was tiny little thing when I planted it last spring..

Bird Feed

I had planned to start dead-heading my coneflowers today since they are almost faded out and not very attractive anymore....but then I looked out and a Goldfinch was enjoying breakfast on coneflower seeds so I have decided to wait for a few more days..and then maybe I'll just cut the most faded ones.  My pictures aren't the best but they were taken through the screen and the window both and it was the best I could do..Sew until next time....have a Stitches kind of day..

Playing With A New App

I was reading someone's blog the other day and they mentioned an app called Waterlogue..I bought it and have been having some fun making some of my photos to look like watercolor paintings. I think I am going to get some of them printed, frame them and make a photo college.

Flowers From My Garden

This never photographs very good, It's called  Dragon Arum. Or Dragon Lily. It has a very unique blossom, that smells like something dead for a couple of days!!

We were threatened with hail again this morning, so I drug the pots that I could lift into the garage for the 3rd time in the past week or 10 days. And it did hail, pea size to large marble but it doesn't look like it did much damage to the rest of the flowers..It has quit raining and the sun is shining, it is going to be a nice day, a little humid and the temps are going to be around 90..time to shut up the house and turn on the AC.  Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day!!!

Spring !

 I am hoping that Spring has finally arrived and I want to enjoy it for a few weeks but today they have forcast the temp's to be in the 90"s..now how crazy can we get?  I still have a few areas in the flower beds to get cleaned up but on Monday my oldest DD came down and "we" cleaned out all along the fence..Wow, what a big help that was and I am so grateful to have that done. I am in love with Spring so I wanted to show you a few pictures of my back yard.  The bottle tree is new, I received it for Christmas from oldest DD & husband. I really like it!!

In the above picture you can see part of "what I call" of my herb garden but now it's mostly flowers except 1/4 of the area has some hardy herbs still growing...Isn't that grass green?

My Redbud tree fully in bloom, I love this time of year.

My tulip bed,,  ha ha. My tulips have petered out so I must plant a few new ones this Fall. I have just a couple of more to bloom in the herb garden but that's about it. I haven't planted any new one for several years so what can I expect?

The Virginia Bluebells, I really like them too but I just wish they would last a little longer than they do. They are so delicate looking and they come up every year. We moved to this house in the early 70"s and they came with the house. Soon they will die down and then the Japanese Iris will follow.  .

See that house in the background, we lived there until we moved to this house....it was not a long distance move!!  That house has a wonderful front porch and a wrap around porch in the back.  It was a very comfortable house and sometimes I wish that I still lived there..I am going to one of my Mini groups this afternoon to stitch and visit.....Sew until next time, I hope you have a Stitches kind of day.............

The Give Away on Cookies Treasures, I Won!

 

I won the give away on Cookies Treasures several weeks ago and I was thrilled about it. I hadn't won anything from anyone for a long time so it was exciting. She sent a little kit for a make-up bag, a really cute bracelet and a lovely card. I will try to get the make-up bag made up soon and I know I will enjoy wearing the bracelet, especially to my quilt meetings and it came all the way from Germany..It's very unique as you can see in the picture...so many, many thanks to Kerstin for all the goodies!!!!

More Pictures of TLC Garden Open House

I have more pictures of the Garden Open House that I went to see last week. These are some pictures that a friend took and I think you'll like looking at them. Some are similar to the ones I took but many are a little different. She got there before I did and I think a lot of 'stuff' had been bought and removed when I got there. People are just swarming this place when she has these open houses, it's just so much fun to go and see all that she has plus the flowers are just beautiful. A Fall Garden Open House

On Friday, my daughter and I went to visit the TLC Fall Open House. It is located in Nebraska, just a few miles north of Fremont..She has 2 open houses a year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. The yard is huge and she has so many things, you just can hardly take it all in. The little gift shop is filled with dried flowers, gift items and so much to look at, it's a overwhelming. She freeze dries a lot of her flowers and makes wonderful arrangements. I made a slideshow of the pictures that I took and I hope you enjoy the show. Bring the popcorn!!!

Want a Peek at My Fairy Garden?

I have waited all summer to get this Fairy Garden to come to life..First, I waited for the tree stump to get transformed into the Fairy House. It still isn't painted but that will come eventually.  And I am waiting for the window frames to get made and nailed on. Gotta have windows, right?   I waited to plant/make the garden until after the roof was made and installed as I was afraid the garden would get stepped on and messed up. And then it was soooo hot, that I knew it would be useless to plant or transplant the foliage, we have finally had some cooler weather...So last week a friend came over and "we" planted, designed and fussed around and the fairy garden came to a reality!! Yeah, I'm so happy!! I have been collecting little things for several months and have been gifted with a few of the items too. Once you start thinking about something like this, a person is always on the lookout for "stuff" to go in the garden. I finished it off with coco bean hull mulch, oh yummy, that smelled like chocolate for the first several days and then I put the rocks around the border. I had a few rocks but had to beg a few from a friend and she was gracious enough to let me have some of hers.  Aren't friends the greatest? I still have a few more things that I want to do but there is always next year, I hope.
