The Wish Quilt

I was determined to sew something yesterday, just to have the feeling of accomplishment. I needed to re-bond with my sewing machine as it had been weeks since I had sat and sewed anything. In 2012, I think, I started the embroidery blocks on The Wish Quilt, a free pattern so generously offered by Red Brolly. She still has the pattern on her site if you want to save it. It's a very scrappy quilt and I like that look a lot.  I have had the blocks all embroidered for sometime now but there are a few applique pieces still yet to do and I'll do them as I piece each block, that's my plan anyway. So I took the leap and pieced the first block, I'm not sure that I like the heart block so it may get replaced but I'll show you and see what you think about it.  I haven't embroidered the antlers yet either so I guess it isn't officially "done" but I wanted to show it to you anyway. I am open to comments from you so feel free to tell me if there is something I can do to improve the look. Do you like the print fabric that I used on the left side?

If you look closely at the embroidery, you can see that I have added just a small touch of color. See the yellow stars, the green bow and the black mane on the horse. Time is Rushing By

I am dragging my feet about getting ready for Christmas this year .  I have very little decorating done so far!!  I have a Christmas cloth on my kitchen table with a centerpiece. And one of my favorite quilts "Welcome to the North Pole" hanging on the wall. I really need to begin getting ready for Christmas in July, it gets more over whelming every year, could it be that I'm getting older every year?

Here is another one that I really enjoyed making several years ago, called "And to All a Goodnight" It is a pattern designed by Sue Garman and is still available.

And just a couple more items that I made.

I wish to take this moment to thank all of the people who made comments and who took the time to come and visit us for out first Blog Tour of Quilts.  I want to especially thank all of the participants who took time out of their busy holiday schedule to make projects or just posted projects on their sites so we could enjoy looking at their wonderful creations.

Sorry I've been "silent" for so long

Greetings from snowy Iowa. We are supposed to get between 6-8 inches of snow before Tuesday and actually I'm rather looking forward to being housebound so maybe I can get some sewing done. I just got done posting pictures on Myra's PhD Challenge..I have committed to getting 3 projects done before June 30th. The three that I chose (it was a dam hard decision) have been laying around for far too many years. So I will share with you the ones that I have chosen.

This is a Santa Block of the Month that I did several (many) years ago but want to add an extra border to it and also add some applique Christmas lights to the border. I will have this machine quilted but not by me. This is the oldest of the three I have chose for the challenge.

The next one is the Quilted Village. The center and the blocks are done but the blocks need to be cut to size and added to the center and then quilted. I plan on quilting it myself.

The last but not least, is my Dear Jane quilt. "She" is ready to have the borders put on so I think today I am going to work on sewing some of those triangles together. "She" has just been laying around for several years gathering dust and "she" is sick of it.

I don't know what my hang-up is with finishing projects, maybe I need some consolling. :-) I would much rather start something than finish it, what do you think about that? Well, time's a'wasting so I best get busy and GET THOSE PROJECTS FINISHED. I will let you know how much progress that I am making on these from time to time...Until next time, I hope you have a "Stitches" kind of day.

Another Christmas Quilt

I just had to post a couple of pictures of another one of my Christmas quilts for you to see. It's called  "And to All a Goodnight". The designer is Sue Garman of Kinship & Kompany. I finished this quilt about 5 years ago and really like it on the bed, too bad, so sad, that it only gets to be out such a short time. I think I will start celebrating Christmas in July and December both, only without all the hoopla. Sue Garman is the designer that has done the Block of the Months for The Quilt Show (Alex Anderson/Ricky Timms) and it is free if you are a members. This next years BOM looks like a real dandy, lots of piecing but very pretty.

I hope you like looking at my pictures of the Christmas quilts. I have a couple of more and I might put them on in a day or two, in between batches of Nut Brittle and a couple of batches of cookies. I hope you are having a "Stitches" kind of day. Bye for now.

More pictures of my Christmas quilts

I said I would post more pictures of the "Welcome to the North Pole" quilt but I got waylaided for a few days. Last Thursday, I had to have a new Pacemaker/Defibrillator "installed", the battery in mine was getting low and I was hearing an alarm every morning at 7:00. I am glad that it is done and everything went well and it's healing nicely. Anyway, enough of that and onward to the pictures. Like I said earlier, I love this quilt and only wish I could leave it up longer,,,well, I guess I could, it's my quilt, right? But it would probably look a little out of place on the 4th of July...enjoy the pictures..

 

I think I have a lot to learn about uploading these pictures and getting them placed where I want them. Sometimes they cooperate and sometimes they don't, oh well, I don't think anyone is looking at them anyway   :-)

It's been a while but I will try to do better!!

I was gone to Nebraska for Thanksgiving and just haven't gotten back into blogging since I returned. Christmas decorating is on my mind but I just can't seen to get into gear. I do have my Christmas wall-hanging up and it is one of my most favorite things that I have made. A friend, Phyllis and I decided in January 2007, that we would get together about once a week and make the Piece O' Cake "Welcome to the North Pole" quilt. We both made our own quilt but pulled our own fabrics and shared with each other. We had a lot of fun deciding on the fabric and doing our weekly blocks together. We worked on them until about October 2007, then they had to be quilted, then we embellished, wow, we were always on the prowl for embellishments to add to our finished quilts. I will try to post a few pictures and show you my quilt.

I used some of my grandmother's buttons for some of the door knobs, an earring from my grand-daughter,(she had lost the other one) and many beads and embellishments. I will post some of the other pictures later. I would highly recommend anyone doing this kind of a quilt with a friend or two. I am working on another quilt with 2 friends and will tell more about it at a later date. I hope you are having a "Stitches" kind of day.
