Snowbound

I made this Raspberry Coffee Cake yesterday as I was housebound because of the weather. Don't ask me how much of it is left!! It's a really good cake!! We had a good old blizzard, I rather enjoyed it. I am not a Winter hater, I think I am always going to get so much done in the winter but it doesn't usually work out for me somehow.. In the Winter I don't have to worry about all the weeds, deadheading plants and flowers, getting the lawn mowed and generally just sprucing things up a bit..so I should be planted at my sewing machine and getting some projects finished, right?  Here are some pictures of the snow yesterday. It was actually very, very pretty.
This area is where I have my Fairy Garden, the fairies were so smart to go South for the winter..

Light pole and redbud tree in background and a dead plant hanging on the pole!!

Looking out my kitchen window, all the windows had droplets on them from the blowing snow..

The lilac hedge that runs along my driveway
The Blue Spruce tree in my neighbors yard..
The temp yesterday was right around 34 degrees until night time when it went down. And by mid-afternoon, most of the snow had thawed/fallen off of the trees and bushes and etc. I am going to the basement and sew today and I'll let you know what I accomplished... Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day...

It's Winter in Iowa

Yes, we have gotten a lot of wet, heavy snow today but the temp is actually around 34 degrees so it is starting to melt off the trees, shrubs and etc.  It could have been worse!! I hope you are having a Stitches kind of day,,,,

Is It Cold At Your House???

My red amaryllis has brought a bright spot to my house this very bitterly cold morning. My indoor-outdoor thermometer isn't showing the outside temperature for some reason but I know it was supposed to be below zero this morning and our high today somewhere around 7 or 8!!  I bought this Amaryllis right before Christmas for $4.99 and it had already shown some growth. It has exceeded my expectations already. There are 4 lovely blooms and it's really pretty, the picture doesn't do it justice. I think it is rather strange that it doesn't have any leaves yet. I hope you are warm and cozy today, I know that I am staying in and perhaps get some sewing done.  I am working on a wool applique project and I will show it to you soon. The sun is really bright and that helps everything in my book!  Sew until next time, I hope you have a Stitches kind of day................until next time...

Hail or Snow, Hail or Snow, I Don't Want To See Anymore!!!

Well, a week ago today, we had a great hail storm and tornadoes that touched down in our area. It was some of the biggest hail that I have ever seen. I have 3 broken storm windows, damage to the siding on the west side of my home and I don't know what it did to the roof yet..The insurance adjuster hasn't been here to check it out and he won't get here until next week sometime.  Some of those hail stones above are golf ball size and really hard and they make a lot of noise when they are hitting your house!!!!  And then we've had snow about every other day. These are pictures of the first snow. It came down so gentle and was so full of moisture that it just clung (clung, is that really a word? sounds weird to me) to everything. Notice how it piled up on the lilac hedge and the outside lamp post below.

And then there is the wire cage that supports my Oriental Lilies. I think it's really neat the way the snow looks like frosting on it. I am just thankful that everyone was okay from the tornadoes and hopefully this will be our last snow for the year..I'm ready for all that yard work to begin. ;-)
