Remember His & Hers?

Do you remember the His and Her's pillowcases? They were popular many, many moons ago.  I embroidered this pair when I was in high school. I remember using the colors that were recommended and I thought it was very daring to use lime green with lavender/purple and blue..then aqua to outline the letters...and bold pink flowers!!!  But I have always loved these colors together and now I treasure these pillowcases.  And I crocheted the edging too!! A couple of years ago, I dug them out and they were so yellowed with age so I soaked them in Oxyclean several times for several days and they came out sparkling white again.  This was just a little trip back in time as I made them over 60 years ago and I still love them even though there isn't a "His" anymore. :-(  I wonder what my kids will do with them when I'm gone?  Treasure or trash???

I linking today with Super Mom-No Cape, you should go check out what others have shared with us if you like hand embroidered pieces..Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day..............

  1. I'm so glad you don't have the embedded comment box where I can't leave a comment. =) I LOVE these pillowcases! Yes, those were a daring color combination. Good for you for sticking with it! I'm sorry there's no need for the His any longer, but I hope one of your children will cherish these.

  4. Lovely pillowcases. I'm pleased to hear how you got rid of the yellowing. I'm certainly going to try that next time I'm confronted with a similar situation.

  6. These are so pretty! Isn't it interesting that the recommended colors at the time are colors that are so in right now. Perhaps you could ask your children if they eventually would like to have them and if not, that would give you the chance to pass them along to someone who would love and treasure them.

Thanks so much for linking up to this week's Stitchery Link Party and for helping to get the word out about it! Aloha hugs!

I've always loved the embroidered pillowcases. We got a set (cross stitched) for a wedding present. Still have them, almost 28 years later.
