Dilly, Dilly
I made some Dilly Casserole Bread this morning and my house smells so good!! This recipe was a Pillsbury Bake-off winner in 1960..It was made and entered by Leona Schnuelle from Crab Orchard, Nebraska and she won $25,000!!! My Gramma was the one that first made this in our family. My husband hated cottage cheese but this was one of his favorite breads..we didn't tell him it had cottage cheese in it, until after he tried and like it. :-)
Ready to add the remaining flour and knead a little bit.
All ready to raise the first time. When I get ready to make some bread, I turn the oven light on. Then I can preheat my oven to 100 degrees, shut it off and open the door. By the time my dough is ready to rise, my oven is warm and I put my dough in there, close the door and let it raise.
I put my Pumpkin silicon lid on the bowl and it keeps it air tight. I love these lids, they are so handy!!
They call this bread, a "batter" bread as you really don't need to knead it....but I do. I don't make it into a loaf but I make buns..They make a wonderful sandwich or just plain with a smattering of butter. Here is the recipe that I use: Dilly Casserole Bread
(2) 1 pkg. yeast (4 t.) 2 t. dill seed
(1/2) 1/4 cup warm water (2 t.) 1 t. salt
(2 C.) 1 cup creamed cottage cheese (1/2 t.) 1/4 t. baking soda
(4 T.) 2 T. sugar (2) 1 egg
(2 T.) 1 T. instant minced onion (5 C.) 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups of flour (I use bread flour)
(2 T.) 1 T. butter (the ingredients in parentheses is for a double batch)
Dissolve yeast in water. Heat cottage cheese to lukewarm. Combine sugar, onion, butter, dill seed, salt, baking soda and egg in a bowl with cheese and yeast mixture. Add flour to form stiff dough. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk. Stir down dough. Turn into well greased 1 1/2 qt. casserole or 8 inch round pan. Let rise 30 - 40 minutes or until light. Bake in 350 degree oven 40-50 minutes. Brush with butter and sprinkle with salt. Makes 1 loaf. (As you can see by the pictures, I make buns, and I cook each pan 10 minutes and then I switch around the pans on the oven grates and cook another 10 minutes. 20 minutes total for the buns. Doubled recipe makes about 22-24 buns)
Sew until next time, have a great day and try making some Dilly Bread!!!!

Time is Rushing By
I am dragging my feet about getting ready for Christmas this year . I have very little decorating done so far!! I have a Christmas cloth on my kitchen table with a centerpiece. And one of my favorite quilts "Welcome to the North Pole" hanging on the wall. I really need to begin getting ready for Christmas in July, it gets more over whelming every year, could it be that I'm getting older every year?
Click on Welcome to the North Pole, if you would like to see more of this quilt and maybe another one or two. I hope my #1son (and my only one) will come today and carry my tree upstairs for me so I can get started decorating it!!! Sew until next time, I hope your decorating is ALL done and ready for Christmas. Have a Stitches kind of day!!!!

Here are a few early pictures of my Fairy Garden this year. I didn't get anything new but just arranged it differently from the previous garden. Joel, my grandson, helped me so I had good help in making it. Enjoy!!
I hope the fairies have had fun dancing this year. Sew until next time, have a Stitches kind of day.....

Embroidered Ringbearer Pillows
My third grandson was married in July and they were having two ring bearers and I offered to make the pillows for them. Amber's theme was Burlap and Lace, it seems to be a very popular theme these days for weddings!! So here are the pillows that I made, I used the wrong side of ivory satin to embroider on and framed the pillows in the burlap pattern that she used throughout the wedding. The picture of the back of the pillow shows the pattern very well. I hope you enjoy looking!!
These are the third time I have made ring bearer pillows for special people in my family. I wonder how many more I will get to make??? Until next time, have a Stitches kind of day!!!!

I've Surfaced!
I think I have been on a self imposed sabbatical but it's time I surfaced on here and get some current posts published soon. It was a lot of baseball, watching 2 grandson's play, on 2 different teams. Weddings, my 3rd grandson to get married and a great niece the week following. And then I just got out of the habit of posting, does anyone else ever get in the same boat??? Back in May, when I made the puppy tea towels for my future granddaughter-in-law, my daughter-in-law "ordered" a set of tea towels for their 20th wedding anniversary in June ..so I got busy and made the next set. I chose Bluebirds to embroider and they were fun to do. So here are the Bluebirds!! Now I have several more sets "ordered" so I guess I should just keep on embroidering tea towels for everyone in the family. My daughter's both tell me that their towels are all worn out and new ones are really needed. Okay, then!!!
So until the next time, I hope you have a Stitches kind of day......................

Playing With A New App
I was reading someone's blog the other day and they mentioned an app called Waterlogue..I bought it and have been having some fun making some of my photos to look like watercolor paintings. I think I am going to get some of them printed, frame them and make a photo college.
Aren't these pictures great? Tell me what you think about this app and tell me what you could do with something like this.....Sew until next time,,,have a Stitches kind of day..
